Kalla Group will start using clean electricity or sourced from renewable energy in its business units by the end of this year. This initiative is implemented across multiple sites, including Nipah Park Mall and the Kalla Toyota Gowa.
These two business units will use rooftop solar power plant as a source of electricity, marked by the recent signing of an agreement with renewable energy startup Suryanesia.
Kalla Group Strategy & Digitalization Director Zumadi S.M. Anwar stated that this is part of his team's commitment to build a sustainable business to provide positive environmental and social impact.
Rooftop solar power plant is considered the latest example of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiative implemented by various companies.
Through their rooftop solar power plant, the company claims to be able to produce clean energy of 543,127 kWh, thereby reducing the carbon footprint by 426,355 tons of CO2e every year.
"This cooperation in the use of rooftop solar panel plant is a part of Kalla's renewable energy initiative. We already have the largest hydropower plant in Poso with a capacity of 515 MW, then there is also the hydropower plant in Kerinci and in several other areas. In this way, there is no doubt about our renewable energy commitment," said Zumadi in an official statement on Friday (13/9/2024).
Meanwhile, Suryanesia CEO Rheza R. Adhihusada said that through his company’s Solar-as-a-Service solution, Kalla Group can utilise solar energy as a clean energy source without investment or hassle, as Suryanesia will be responsible for funding, licensing, construction, operating, and maintaining the rooftop solar panel plant.
"Suryanesia is grateful for the trust given by Kalla such that we can support them in building a sustainable business," he explained.
Suryanesia itself is a clean energy company that aims to reduce greenhouse gas levels such that people can live in harmony with nature. Apart from Nipah Park and Kalla Toyota Gowa, Suryanesia also operates rooftop solar panel installations at Gaia Bumi Raya City, Plaza IBCC, and other locations.
