Bandung Shopping Center Use Parking Area for Rooftop Solar Installation

Jakarta, tvOnenews.com – A shopping center in Bandung, West Java, is utilizing its parking area to install a rooftop Solar Power Plant to support a more environmentally friendly city.

“The inauguration of this solar carport reflects Istana Group’s commitment to developing eco-friendly shopping centers. We hope today’s launch will inspire other malls, especially in Bandung, to help the government limit global temperature increases in line with commitments made under the Paris Agreement,” said The Plaza IBCC Director Abrijanto Effendi in Bandung, West Java, on Friday.

Ablijanto explained that the 408.75 kWp rooftop solar installation, developed in partnership with Suryanesia, serves as proof that shopping centers can become change makers. “The installation at The Plaza IBCC is a solar carport system with a total area of 1,960 square meters. Through this solar carport innovation, the panels not only generate clean energy but also serve as a protective roof for the mall’s parking area and as an educational platform for the public,” he said.

To maximize electricity production, Abrijanto added, Suryanesia uses bifacial solar panels on the carport so they can absorb sunlight from the top and reflected light from below, enabling up to 30 percent more energy generation compared to conventional solar panels.

“Through this initiative, Istana Group hopes to set an example in improving the quality of life for the community and emphasizing the importance of environmental progress and responsibility,” he said. Istana Group also plans additional solar installations with Suryanesia for future projects.
